Ediscovery tools make corporate investigations simpler
24 Jan
Many corporations, and even some government departments, struggle with digital investigations, and particularly where electronically stored information is required. Due the escalating costs, many organisations have opted to resort to manual interventions, but these types of interventions have just caused more issues for large corporates. The major stumbling block in not using some form of ediscovery tool is that organizations are then forced into collecting data manually across a wide and diverse set of information stores, and utilizing a diverse set of tools to obtain this data. By undertaking a manual approach, organizations are also prone to using the most simple search operators, and then having to wade through potentially numerous documents, leading to major time issues on review. The overall investigation process then becomes a time-consuming and error prone process. EDiscovery tools have been created to ensure that corporate, and even the government departments spoken of, do have to resort to the manual intervention, but rather allow for investigation and document search and retrieval within a single application. Another benefit of such ediscovery tools is that they allow for multilingual search capabilities, thus allowing investigators to rapidly process and analyze relevant information and data that will be critical to investigations. Obviously, organisations that invest into these types of tools will have the edge in investigation related work.
